A Visit from Great Aunt Elaine and Uncle Tom

Aunt Elaine and Uncle Tom with a sleepy Sophia.

All smiles for Aunt Elaine
Sleepy again in Uncle Tom's arms

Today Sophia had the pleasure of meeting her Great Aunt Elaine and Uncle Tom. They came from Killeen for a visit. Elaine is Pop's sister, (Annie Kate's dad). Sophia really seemed to respond to them with lots of smiles. It was a really special time for her to meet her next closest relatives! We hope for many more visits with them in the future.

Sophia says, "Cheerio!" and "Life is what happens between hiccups."

Here's a peek at our favorite Sophia face: the cheerio! She holds it for minutes at a time! This one is with the hiccups!

Meeting Annye Kate Wheeler

Hello Everyone~! Today is a special day because I get to meet my mommy's namesake, Annye Kate Wheeler, who I will know as "Auntie Kate". She is coming from Salado to meet me for the very first time! So mommy is giving me a special bath. I even got to use this fancy towel that "Auntie Kate" gave me! I feel beautiful wrapped up in it!
This is Annye Kate Wheeler. She brought me another beautiful gift! It's a white dedication dress made about 200 years ago! When I can fit into it, mommy is going to have my portrait made.

I like Auntie Kate and I think she likes me, too!

Auntie Kate is good friends with my Grammy, too (Grammy is next to Auntie Kate in the picture below). Any friend of Grammy's is a friend of mine!

Sophia's Fourth Day

Here's an impromptu video Annie Kate made on Sophia's fourth day of life. It's quite dark, but thought it worth posting for those of you who want to see Sophia in action. This video also features Mia, Tim's mom.

Sophia Claire Head is born!

Proud Parents~ Timothy & Annie Kate Head

Sweet Daughter~Sophia Claire Head

Hello Friends!

We are happy to announce the arrival of our daughter, Sophia Claire Head. She came into the world healthy and happy on the eve of Thanksgiving Day~Wednesday, November 21st at 10:39 p.m. She weighed 8 lbs. and 6 oz. (almost a whole lb. more than was estimated!), and was 20 inches long!

We were in the hospital through Thanksgiving and went home that Saturday. It hardly mattered to be drinking clear liquids only on Thanksgiving Day in light of the joyful circumstances of Sophia's birth. However, upon arriving home Saturday evening, we were served a wonderful Thanksgiving meal prepared by Annie Kate's mom and celebrated with both Tim and Annie Kate's parents.

Sophia and Daddy at the hospital

This photo was taken about 1/2 an hour after Sophia's birth! She was looking quite lively even after a very long labor!
This was Sophia's second day of life. We like to swaddle her to accentuate her cherub cheeks!

~Sophia's Nursery~

Welcome to Sophia's nursery! Here's a little video tour of the finished product. We had alot of fun putting it all together. Kate did most of the fun stuff-choosing fabrics and colors. We chose the furniture together, and Tim did all the manly work of painting walls, assembling furniture, and hanging pictures. We just need our little pumpkin to come and grace us with her presence! Won't be long now....

Grandbaby Shower for Mia and Papa!

Mia and Papa's friends at work suprised them last week with a Grandbaby Shower complete with a slide show featuring Sophia Claire's ultrasound photos, cake, games, and gifts! Here are some of the photos below!

Mommy at 38 weeks!

Rather than post week-by-week pictures of my ever -changing figure, I thought I'd just shock you with one at almost full term! This photo was taken In Sophia's nursery about 2 weeks ago at 38 weeks. There hasn't been much change since then. The doctors are guessing she's around 7 1/2 lbs. I was born at 6.7 lbs and Tim was 9.3 lbs, so we're guessing somewhere in the 7-8 lb. range...!

Here you can see my blossoming waist measurement, which has gone from somewhere around 27 inches to a nice round 42 inches! Way to go Baby Sophia!

Two Great Grandmothers and one Terrific Pepaw!

Sophia not only has two wonderful sets of grandparents, but she also has two living great grandmothers and one terrific Pepaw! The great grandmothers are Mimi on Tim's side and Granny on Annie Kate's side. Then there's great grandfather "Pepaw", also on Tim's side of the family. Meet all three just below:

Mimi: Queen of Hearts!

Without further adieu, we would like to introduce (drumroll........)Margaret Court Curtis, known affectionately to us as Mimi! Mimi is Tim's grandmother on his mother's side. She is characterized by her fun-loving, energetic, and generous nature, and her many facets include accountant, businesswoman, boardmember, bible teacher, italian cook extradonnaire, and most recently even fashion show model! Timothy's fondest childhood memory with Mimi is playing cowboys and indians in his living room tee-pee! And she still has twice the energy of someone half her age! But what we love most about Mimi is her unquenchable love and the genuine care she shows for all of her family. We know Sophia Claire will fall in love with her just like the rest of us already have!

Granny: A True Original
Here is Granny (a.k.a. Faye Miller), Annie Kate's grandmother and Pop's mother, (that's Annie Kate's dad). Granny will have her very first great grandchild within a few short weeks, (2 if the due date is correct)! At 96 years old, she has waited a long time for this! But Granny is as healthy as they come. She takes no medication, (not even aspirin), and lived in her own home independently until the last couple of years. Granny's hobbies are beating the family at Scrabble games and working elaborate puzzles. She's turning 97 on November 22nd, and is holding out that Sophia might share a birthday with her!

Meet Pepaw: A True Rennaisance Man
Pepaw, Tim's grandfather and Mia's father, is a true Rennaisance man, who has lived quite an adventurous life! His latest hobby is videography, and he has created a great 4 1/2 minute short piece for Sophia, and for us, to enjoy (see below)! Thank you, Pepaw, for this little piece of history to pass down to your soon-to-come great grandaughter!

First Shower for Sophia in Sulphur Springs!

The first shower for Sophia was Labor Day weekend in Sulphur Springs, Annie Kate's childhood home. The beautifully planned event was packed with dear friends of the Miller's and held in the home Gregg and Debbie Price.

Image 1: Hostesses Debbie Price and Becky Roper went above and beyond in planning the shower. Every detail was beautiful from the invitations and napkins to the petits fours and cookies! And these two have more than one reason to be smiling! Only weeks before this picture was taken they became family, when their children, Abbey Price and Daniel Roper, were married! So many reasons to celebrate!

Image 2: A bird's eye view at the shower lets you see just a few of the many people that came to celebrate, as well as a peak at Debbie and Gregg's unique home!

Image 3: Gifts, gifts and more gifts! There were so many gifts in the living room, that these had to be kept out on the porch!

Image 4: So many gifts that "Grammy" had to help open, (and why shouldn't she?!)! We must have opened gifts for almost three hours straight!

Image 5: Annie Kate with hostess, Debbie- THANK YOU, Debbie and Gregg, for opening your home and blessing us with such an unforgettable shower for Sophia! We love you!

Introducing the Grandparents: Part Two

Hello everyone! Meet Sophia's sensational grandparents on Tim's side of the family-Mia and Papa!

Ciao Bella! Meet "Mama Mia" (a.k.a. Tim's mom, Lee) ! Here she is being serenaded by an Italian accordian player in Venice, Italy! And she is Italian,a true romantic, and makes a mean lasagna! We are sure that Sophia will never have a dull moment when she's spending time with Mia! And you can bet that some of that time will be spent at Disneyworld within Sophia's first 2 1/2 years (it's a Head family tradition)!

Meet Papa (a.k.a. Tim's Dad, Rick)! Here he is, doing what he loves to do, which is making people happy and having fun! He's already warming up for Sophia, letting this little girl paint his face! Among his many talents, (he played both baseball and football when at Baylor), Papa takes the stage several times a year for audiences as a stand up comedian! I'm sure Sophia will look forward to all of Papa's funny jokes!

STAY TUNED to Meet the Greats: Mimi, Granny, and Pepaw~Sophia's Great Grandparents!

Introducing the Grandparents: Part One

Sophia will be blessed with two fantastic sets of grandparents! Really, we can't think of four more wonderful people for her to spend time with than these. We'll start with the Miller side since we have the photos ready, (stay tuned for photos of Mia and Papa Head!).

Meet Annie Kate's mom, Carol, soon to be known by Sophia as Grammy! We know what you're thinking; she couldn't possibly be old enough to be a grandmother! But it's true! And we are sure she will add music and a love of literature to little Sophia's life, not to mention occassional trips to the zoo.

Now meet Annie Kate's Dad, Mark. He is affectionately known by most as Dr. Miller, but will be known by Sophia as Pop, unless, of course, she comes up with some endearing variation that we can't resist, (we hear children are known to do that)! Mark's hobbies are healthy eating (really!) and Bible study, so we expect that he will be creating a line of gourmet organic baby foods just for Sophia and teaching her whole passages of scripture in one sitting. And...as you can see here, Mark is lots of fun, and we know Sophia will love taking special trips with him to the ice cream parlor, (after finishing her organic peas, ofcourse).

Sophia Series: 33 weeks inside Mommy!

For this photo shoot with Dr. Paul Redman, Sophia's pose was upside-down, face-down! So for a while, we were only able to see the back of her pretty little head! Then, for about five minutes, both hands were covering her face; you can still see a hand with pointed finger near her eye in the first photo of the series, (careful there, Sophia!). However, with Dr. Paul's skillful handling of his high-tech 3-d ultrasound camera, and a little shifting on mom's part, we were able to sneak a side view of little Sophia's face. For the last two photos in the series, she began to turn towards us for a little clearer view.

As we marvel over these photos, the verse comes to mind, "Now we see through a glass dimly,...but then, we will see face to face!" I Corinthians 13:12. We are eager to greet our new little family member face to face in just 6 1/2 weeks!

Image 1: Something's in my eye!

Image 2: Sleepy Head

Image 3: Chin up!
Image 4: Maybe I'll turn my head,...(Dr. Paul said the white spots to the left of her nose are actually part of her hand where she has positioned it near that side of her face, so only one of her eyes is actually visible in this photo).
